Dear Friends
It is with great joy that I write this letter of invitation and information about the DIAKONIA Region Africa-Europe Conference 2011. In Basel, at our last Regional Conference, we talked of going to Africa and in Atlanta at our Regional meeting we gladly received and accepted the invitation from Sister Elly Urio and the Sisters of Ushinka Wa Neema to come to Moshi, Tanzania
Conference dates: 21st – 26th July 2011
Theme: Help from beyond the Mountain
The local planning group have been busy making many preparations for us. Sr. Ulrike Kellner and I will travel to Tanzania, 18th – 28th October, to make the final arrangements. Please pray for us all as we meet together. There will be much joy and laughter along with hard work!
The estimated cost of the Conference is 650 US dollars. Currently places will be limited to 210 people. The DRAE Executive want to enable more to attend from our African associations than are normally able and so we will have a ‘quota’ system. Each DRAE member association will be guaranteed places for each of their voting delegates + 1. So if you have 2 voting delegates – 4 places! For the remainder of the places it will be ‘first come, first served’, with a reserve list.
Registration will begin in December and further details will be sent at the end of November. If you have any questions please contact the Secretary, Sr. Sabine Ritter or me.
Our accommodation will be in the Lutheran Uhuru Hotel, the Zebra Hotel and the Montesorri College in Moshi. Our meeting room will be in the Lutheran Uhuru Hotel. The nearest airport is Kilimanjaro International which has links from some international airports and airlines like KLM. We will all need visas and some vaccinations are recommended.
The sisters are planning our programme to include devotions, keynote speakers, visits to church and projects, and hopefully a ‘tourist’ visit. There will be no planned tours after the Conference but we hope to provide you with information so that you can make your own arrangements.
Please continue to pray for all the preparations and also to consider if you are able to donate to the DRAE Travel Fund to enable us to support our African sisters and brothers.
So on behalf of the DRAE Executive and the sisters in Tanzania I invite you to the Conference in Moshi, Tanzania and look forward to a wonderful time together on African soil!
With every blessing
Deacon Jackie Fowler
