Insight into Madagascar: The FJKM Mamré Community

The FIANGONAN’I JESOA KRISTY ETO MADAGASIKARA (FJKM) Mamré Community in Antananarivo brings together a strong spiritual life with practical service to people in need. The sisters support children, families and local communities through education, pastoral care, daily meals and many other social activities, while living together in prayer and Christian fellowship.

At the beginning of the year, Madagascar was hit by Tropical Cyclone Gezanie, causing serious damage and landslides. The Mamré Community gave shelter to 32 people who had lost their homes and joined the FJKM Church in providing emergency support to the affected areas. Alongside food and other practical help, the sisters offered prayer, pastoral care and encouragement to people facing difficult circumstances.

Caring for children is one of the community’s main ministries. Through their canteens and education projects, many children receive daily meals, care and a safe place to grow. With the support of international partners, the quality of these services continues to improve. A new building for the children’s centre in Andasibe is now close to completion and will provide more space, better facilities and a welcoming environment for learning and community life.

The sisters also continue to strengthen their own community through retreats, the training of novices and ongoing learning. At the same time, they are improving their facilities by renovating buildings, moving into a new community house in Zoara and developing new projects for the future.

The life of the Mamré Community shows how Christian faith, community life and practical service belong together. Through their daily work, the sisters continue to bring hope, care and God’s love to the people around them.
