Together in Prayer, United in Hope
Around the world, people are facing many challenges. Wars and conflicts, natural disasters, climate change, poverty and hunger affect the lives of many people, including members of our DIAKONIA community.
As the DRAE Board, we have reflected on these challenges and what they mean for us as a worldwide Christian community. We know that we cannot change everything. Some situations are beyond our influence. Other challenges call for us to speak and act together, while in some situations, each of us can make a difference through our own actions, care and support. But there is something we can always do. We can stand together in faith, think of one another and pray for each other.
As Christians, we are connected across countries, cultures and continents. Even when we are far apart, we are not alone. Through prayer, we can share our worries, encourage one another and find strength and hope in our faith. We can remind each other that we belong to a community that cares and stands together, especially in difficult times.
Our Regional President, Deaconess Ibironke Oworu, has written a prayer for peace, which we would like to share with our DIAKONIA community. As we look ahead to our Regional Conference in 2027 under the theme Trust the Journey – Shape the Future Together, this prayer reminds us of the faith and hope that connect us.
We invite you to read this prayer, share it with others and pray together, wherever you are. May these words encourage us, give us hope and remind us that we are there for one another as one community.
A Prayer for Peace
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
Father God, we pray for our World today, we pray for peace and hope to abound. Many are affected by natural disasters: floods, droughts and forest fires. Many are struggling with conflict, poverty and the global food crisis. Lord we pray for your provision, peace and protection in Jesus name Amen.
Lord, we pray for all who are affected by natural disasters and issues of climate change that are having such a detrimental effect on people’s livelihoods and putting many lives at risk. We pray that people living through such difficult times would find comfort and hope in you. Please provide the practical aid people need in times of emergency. Help those amongst us who have plentiful material resources to be generous in sharing what we have with others, and to be mindful of how our actions have an impact on the environment and on creating fair societies.
Amen.
