Diaconal Service through Education, Health and Community in Rwanda
Our member organisation, the Community of Diaconesses “Abaja ba Kristo” in Rubengera, Rwanda, continues to serve people through a wide range of educational, health and social programmes. The community combines Christian faith with practical diaconal work and supports children, families, older people and those facing difficult life situations.

One of the main focuses at the moment is the development of mental health services. The new Amizero Mental Health Centre is currently under construction and will provide counselling, support and care for people experiencing mental health challenges. The project is making good progress and will become an important part of local healthcare in the future.
The community is also strongly involved in education. Alongside a nursery and primary school, it runs a technical secondary school that offers young people valuable practical skills and training. A special highlight this year was the visit of students and teachers from a partner school in Germany, which strengthened international friendship, cooperation and mutual learning.

In addition, the community supports vulnerable families, accompanies older people and helps children and young people in their education and personal development. Agricultural projects, tailoring work and vocational training activities also provide opportunities and support for local people.
We are grateful for the dedicated service of the Diaconesses of Abaja ba Kristo and value the strong international partnership within our worldwide diaconal network.
